About Hue & Dot
Hue and Dot was born from Sally Bennett’s deep passion for the decorative arts. “Throughout my career, I’ve had the privilege of working with interior designers to bring hand-painted art into their clients’ spaces. From my early days as a decorative painter in NYC to the past decade building Mirth Studio, I’m grateful to have merged my two loves—painting and interior design—into a thriving business.”
As Mirth Studio continues to thrive with exciting new products and expanded distribution, we’re proud to introduce our bespoke, trade brand, Hue & Dot. “Collaborating directly with designers to create one-of-a-kind projects allows me to fully embrace my passion for the decorative arts,” says Sally Bennett.
Hardwood Flooring
Our curated collection of Hardwood Flooring is created to allow designers an easy solution while choosing flooring for their clients. Each hand painted design has been printed on to real hardwood planks in 4 distinct colorways. All of our hardwoods can be customized to create extraordinary one of a kind flooring without the need to commission a decorative artist. The costly and time consuming job of painting hardwood floors can be replaced with our easy to install, pre finished planks.
Kilim Rugs
We have coordinated our hardwood flooring with beautiful custom wool rugs and stair runners using a hand knotted Kilim construction. The sophisticated whimsical patterns can be custom colored and custom sized (up to a whopping 64 feet!!)
Timber Cladding & Trim
Our Hue & Dot designs are also available on hardwood wall cladding and wood trim. The panels can be installed on walls, ceilings, beams or used to trim door frames, chair rails or even kitchen cabinets! The existing designs (we are always adding more) can be custom colored or send us your ideas as we would love to work with you creating something truly bespoke!
Wallcoverings
Coming soon…. We have created customizable Trompe l’oeil inspired wall coverings to help designers create dramatic, fantastical one of a kind spaces. Using traditional techniques and modern technology, designers will be able offer their clients a reproduction of real hand painted wall covering that was created specifically for them. Our designs are made to order and can transform a room into a tented wonderland, a historic representation of grandeur or a one of a kind whimsical personalized space.
About Sally...
“After earning my painting degree from art school, I moved to NYC to start a position with an interior design firm renowned for crafting grand New York hotels. Alongside their interior projects, the firm also had a printed textile line, which I was tasked to help develop. This sparked my passion for all things interiors, and I dove headfirst into learning textile design—entirely by hand, as this was before the era of computer-aided pattern-making.
Blending my love of painting with interior design felt like a natural evolution, leading me to establish Sally Bennett Designs. Through this venture, I provided decorative painting services to some of NYC's most prestigious interior designers. Before long, my theatrical approach to painting expanded into commercial spaces, particularly in the hospitality industry. I soon found myself designing bars and nightclubs, transforming them into immersive fantasy worlds. I met my husband, David Baxley and together with our business partners we opened some most buzzworthy 90’s clubs, some of which received global recognition.
Fast forward to my life in Charleston, South Carolina, and my approach to art remains consistent. Through Mirth Studio and our new brand, Hue and Dot, I continue to infuse spaces with vibrant design, bold patterns, and a touch of whimsy and drama.”
I currently work from my studio on Johns Island, where I share a 15-acre farm with my family and a host of rescued pets. It was love at first sight three years ago when I first drove down the enchanting alleé of 300-year-old live oaks. I knew instantly that this was the place I wanted to call home.
One of my greatest passions is home renovation, and this property has provided endless opportunities to indulge! From transforming a barn into an art studio to renovating a charming cottage and a pool house, the projects never seem to end. This farm has become the perfect space for me to design, create prototypes, and install many of the products from Mirth Studio and Hue & Dot.
I’m thrilled to collaborate with designers who incorporate these products into the homes they create, bringing my vision into spaces far beyond my own.
Thank you for being here!
