Big Changes Ahead for Mirth Studio!
Big Changes Ahead for Mirth Studio!
After 10 incredible years, Mirth Studio is embarking on an exciting new chapter. Sally Bennett, the visionary founder and creator of Mirth Studio, began her journey in flooring as a decorative painter, crafting intricate, hand-painted floors that were as beautiful as they were labor-intensive. In 2014, she revolutionized the industry by introducing Mirth Studio, making it possible for designers and design enthusiasts to achieve the look of stunning hand-painted wood floors through pre-finished hardwood tiles that were ready to install—no decorative painter required!
Over the years, Mirth Studio has expanded its offerings to include porcelain, ceramic, wool carpet, wallpaper, and vinyl products. By combining competitive pricing with design-forward patterns, Mirth appeals to a wide range of style-conscious customers and budgets. We are very excited about the future of Mirth Studio as we will be adding many more consumer focused, DIY and budget friendly products including cork flooring and decorative border decals.
Why Hue & Dot?
Hue & Dot, Mirth Studio’s new trade brand, is the result of Sally’s lifelong passion for the decorative arts. “I’ve always loved the collaborative process of creating truly extraordinary spaces,” she says. With Hue & Dot, Sally channels that passion into a unique offering for designers, providing the chance to work on highly customized, one-of-a-kind projects that combine couture craftsmanship with Mirth’s ready-to-wear approach.
Hue & Dot offers boutique products designed for simplicity in the specification process. The wood flooring collection includes 12 standard patterns, each available in four colorways. Customers can customize existing patterns or collaborate directly with Sally to create hand-painted, bespoke designs that are translated into exquisite hardwood flooring.
In addition, Hue & Dot features custom wool Kilim rugs and stair runners, all made to order with endless design possibilities. A special line of stair-runner-specific patterns is also available, with new designs added regularly.
The brand also offers hand-painted wood embellishments, ideal for adding architectural details to walls, ceilings, doorways, beams, or creating a frieze—wherever a touch of custom hand painting is needed. These lightweight panels feature Sally’s original designs and come with peel-and-stick backing for easy installation. We like to think of it as decorative painting to go!
Soon, we’ll have the opportunity to unveil a very special project we’re collaborating on, where all Hue & Dot products will be used to help a world-class designer transform a room into a delightful hand-painted fantasyland. This collaboration is truly an honor and will mark a significant milestone on Sally’s bucket list!
More About Sally Bennett
Sally's creative journey began with a degree in painting and a move to New York City, where she worked with an interior design firm specializing in luxury hotels and a printed textile line. It was here that she developed a passion for interior design and taught herself the art of creating hand-drawn repeating patterns, long before digital tools made the process easier.
This blend of painting and interior design led Sally to establish Sally Bennett Designs, offering decorative painting services to some of New York's top designers and celebrities. Her work expanded into commercial spaces, including some of the city’s most fashionable nightclubs. Sally's theatrical approach to design earned her a reputation for creating immersive, fantasy-inspired spaces. After meeting her husband, nightclub impresario David Baxley, in the 90’s they partnered to open several of NYC's trendiest clubs, including Centro Fly, Drinkland, 10th St. Lounge, and Cafe Aubette. While David managed operations, Sally brought her imaginative vision to life, earning global recognition for her cutting-edge designs.
Now based in Charleston, South Carolina, where she balances her roles as an artist and mother, Sally continues to infuse her work with her signature blend of whimsy and drama through Mirth Studio and Hue & Dot. Both brands showcase her love for transforming spaces with design, color, and pattern. She frequently tests new ideas and refines old ones by experimenting with her own homes. After designing several homes that have been published, Sally is now completing the final details on a small cottage and a large barn/ studio on the 15-acre Johns Island farm that she shares with her family. Next on her agenda is the purchase of an 1835 Charleston Single with a carriage house, which she will transform, with the help of her daughter Ella Baxley, into a whimsical world of color and pattern. In the homes Sally designs everything from the floors, ceilings and trim to the wallpaper and rugs are completely customized using her own products making these homes true one- of -a -kind creations and serve as prototypes for the business.
